چکیده
In this paper, I argue that not only is metaphysical modal normativism an attractive view but that, as a matter of fact, many us have, all along, been normativists particular stripe. Namely, we have the kinds normativists, in form counterpart theorists, who are robust realists about possibility simpliciter. Having introduced Thomasson does Norms and Necessity, go on to recast it somewhat different terms. With re-casting place can see while offers pleasingly deflationary account necessity so against backdrop realism If right, then Lewis’ theory turns out be potent version normativism. So much better for it.

متن کاملCounterpart Semantics for Quantified Modal Logic
In this paper we deal with the semantics for quantified modal logic, QML in short, and their philosophical relevance. In the first part we introduce Kripke semantics for the first-order modal language L= with identity, then we consider some unsatisfactory features of this account from an actualist point of view. In addition, we show that the calculus QE .K + BF on free logic, with the Barcan fo...

Just as set theory can be divorced from Ernst Zermelo’s original axiomatization of it, counterpart theory can be divorced from the eight postulates that were originally stipulated by David Lewis (1968, p. 114) to constitute it. These were postulates governing some of the properties and relations holding among possible worlds and their inhabitants. In particular, counterpart theory can be divorc...
متن کاملCanonical Counterpart Theory
I n a recent article in Analysis , Graeme Hunter and William Seager ( 1981 ) attempt to rescue counterpart theory (CT) from some objections of Hazen 1979 . They see these objections as arising from ‘uncritical use of the translation scheme originally proposed by Lewis’, and intend to meet them by refraining from use of that scheme. But they do not offer a new scheme; they say ‘...it is no more ...
